Yesterday was a super drive day! Carl and I wanted in and out of Texas quickly.... And that's what we've been doing. Yesterday, we drove 888 miles from Kartchner Caverns, Arizona to Luling, Texas (just out of San Antonio). We drove in three states!
We stayed in a shady hotel last night. Though it was clean, it was worn out. The place needed a remodel. I couldn't relax enough to get a good nights sleep. The plus side was the air conditioning as the outside temperature was near 100 and so humid it was like wearing a warm wet blanket.
The room reminded me of the motel in "Psycho" and every and any motel from a horror film.
Currently, we are just shy of Houston. Radio here is VERY conservative and Fox News (fair and balanced my rear) has a heavy presence here. Sermons are interlaced with radio host commentary and commercials. Bible quotes and religous mesages are printed big and bold on semi trucks driving through town. You cannot get away from it.
It's a different side of life, and frankly, I prefer a place that refrains from prosthelytizing. The deep south should prove interesting.
Portland, I love you.
