Where you born? WTF!

We just passed through a border patrol station on I-10. They detoured the entire eastbound freeway through an inspection.

Setting the scene:
Jenny rolls down the window.
Inspector approaches the car putting on leather gloves.
Inspector bends down to look into the car without touching it.
We both slightly bend our necks and turn our heads so that we can face him.
Inspector asks "Are you U.S. Citizens?"
We say "Yes."
Inspector ask directly to me "Where were you born?"
I say "Portland, OR."
Inspector says "Where?"
I say more loudly "Portland, OR!"
Inspector says "Okay."
Jenny waits a second.
The inspector say "Move along."

Of course for me this is a WTF moment considering I've never had someone question my citizenship.
Thanks George Bush! I now really feel like a citizen!
